Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, leading an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation abroad, expressed concern over the recent terror attack in Boulder, Colorado, stating that the delegation strongly condemned the incident and echoed the sentiment that “terror has no place” in democratic societies.

Taking to social media platform X, Tharoor wrote, “Members of the Indian MPs’ delegation learnt with concern about the terror attack in Boulder, Colorado, today. We are relieved there was no loss of life. We all share the Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s view that ‘terror has no place’ in our countries.”

The attack, which occurred on Sunday in downtown Boulder, targeted peaceful demonstrators at a pro-Israel event near the county courthouse. According to Fox News, the FBI has arrested 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, who allegedly shouted “Free Palestine” during the assault and used incendiary materials to harm attendees. The FBI confirmed that six elderly individuals, aged between 67 and 88, were hospitalized with burn injuries.

Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn reported that the incident began around 1:26 p.m. local time and involved a suspect who was armed and deliberately set people on fire. Soliman was detained at the scene.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino classified the attack as “ideologically motivated violence”, while FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the agency is treating the case as a “targeted terror attack”. Patel said in a statement, “Our agents and local law enforcement are already on the scene, and we are fully investigating the incident.”

The assault took place near a gathering organised by “Run for Their Lives,” a grassroots movement calling for the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) noted the group’s peaceful objectives and called the attack a disturbing example of violence against civic expression.

Tharoor’s statement comes while the Indian parliamentary delegation is on an official tour, currently in Brazil and scheduled to travel to the United States next. The delegation was welcomed in Brasilia by Sandeep Kumar Kujur, Charge d’Affaires of the Indian Embassy.

India’s strong condemnation of the Colorado incident underscores its consistent global position against terrorism in all forms. The statement by Tharoor, representing voices across party lines, reaffirms solidarity with victims of ideologically driven violence and calls for international unity in combating terror.
